This painting of a Hosta flowers is painted on slate.

Rockin’it

a group of my new paintings on rock.
These flower images are painted on prepared slate….

Hey I’m doing the thing I never thought I would, painting on rocks.
For many years my passion was observing and painting realistic watercolour images of stones underwater. Hence the moniker: Riverstones Studio…
These days I use acrylics more than watercolours. I went to a local Plein Air event called Paint the Town. It’s a fundraiser held for the past many years (29) in Annapolis Royal Nova Scotia, near where I live now. I decided to paint in the Historic Gardens there a lovely venue to find flowers galore. I did small pieces and all were sold in aid of Artsplace an artist run space.
It got me thinking that I liked to create fast fun images of flowers, happy and warm and peaceful, like the gardens I was in that day.
I walk past a slate dig most days when I am out with my pup. The flat slate seemed like a perfect substrate for some images and I did some small paintings on a prepared flat surface. I like what has happened and will do more…
I’m a convert!
