My head is in the clouds these days. I won a scholarship to a class by Mary Gilkerson called Colour Composition and Light. My first assignment was 20-minute studies to be done of a subject and medium of my choice.
My studio for the past year (IT’S BEEN A YEAR!) has a grand panoramic view of fields and trees and an old, steep, tidal river valley. Since day one here, it has been on my mind to create a series of paintings of the sky that entertains and soothes, amuses and astonishes me each and every day here. Mary’s class offered me the opportunity to start. Here are a few that have come forth…size is approx 8×10 and soon, I will start to use them to create larger images…I’m excited and intent at the same time.
I love having my head in these clouds!
I’m so very grateful for the opportunity to be in Mary Gilkerson’s class. Im learning so much, well relearning most of what I learned so very long ago.
I haven’t taken many classes in my time as an artist. I’m, for the most part, self-taught. Many years ago I spent a month at a masterclass for Scenic Artists, the ones who paint for the theatre stage, I took one painting class at Georgian college a few years back, and spent four, no five years at a high school focused on vocational art. I left there armed with a boatload of skills in the arts!
